Daily Diamonds – Commands of Christ: Ask, Seek, Knock

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” – Matthew 7:7–8

Prayer is not passive. Jesus commands us to ask boldly, seek diligently, and knock persistently. This is not a formula—it’s an invitation to come closer. God is not annoyed by your asking—He is honored by it.

Notice the increasing intensity: Ask – a verbal request. Seek – an active pursuit. Knock – a deliberate persistence. Jesus calls us to pursue the Father with confidence, because He is not hiding from us. He’s waiting to open the door.

Ask (Greek: aiteō, αἰτέω) – to request with expectancy.

Seek (Greek: zēteō, ζητέω) – to pursue, investigate, or desire deeply.

Knock (Greek: krouō, κρούω) – to rap persistently until answered.

All three verbs are in the present tense—indicating continual action: “Keep asking… keep seeking… keep knocking.”

💎 A Diamond of Truth

God delights in your pursuit of Him. He’s not a reluctant deity needing to be persuaded. He’s a loving Father eager to provide what is best. Sometimes the answers come quickly, other times slowly—but never carelessly. He gives what we would ask for if we saw what He sees.

Keep praying. Not because He’s hard to convince—but because He’s that worth knowing.
