The Growing Fear of Being Dogmatic
In many modern churches, doctrinal clarity is avoided out of fear—fear of offense, fear of division, fear of appearing unloving. Yet Scripture consistently warns that truth will be resisted, not celebrated.
“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching.” (2 Timothy 4:3)
The solution to resistance has never been retreat. The church is not called to mirror culture, but to bear witness to truth.
What Fills the Void When Dogma Is Lost
When clear biblical convictions are removed, they are replaced—not with neutrality, but with substitutes:
- Emotion over truth
- Experience over Scripture
- Cultural approval over biblical authority
These substitutes may feel compassionate, but they lack the power to transform lives.
The Spiritual Cost of Doctrinal Drift
Without firm doctrinal anchors, believers become vulnerable to confusion and false teaching.
“So that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine.” (Ephesians 4:14)
A church without dogma may grow numerically, but it will shrink spiritually.
Truth and Love Are Not Opposites
Scripture never presents truth as unloving. In fact, love without truth is not biblical love at all.
“Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into Him who is the head, into Christ.” (Ephesians 4:15)
A Call Back to Courageous Faith
The church does not need to abandon its convictions—it needs to deepen them. Dogma, when grounded in Scripture and expressed with humility, protects the gospel and strengthens believers.
