He Shall Be Like a Tree – God’s Identity for Men
From the series: Biblical Pronouns – Who Does God Say That I Am?
“He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”
– Psalm 1:3 (ESV)
The Roots of True Manhood
In a culture quick to label manhood as toxic or outdated, God’s Word paints a far more noble picture. God’s pronouns over men speak of stability, strength, sacrifice, and spiritual depth. According to Psalm 1, a godly man is not like chaff that blows in the wind—he is a tree. Firm. Fruitful. Faithful.
1. A Man Planted by Purpose
God doesn’t leave His sons to drift. The man who delights in God’s Word is “planted.” That implies intention, care, and divine design. The Lord plants him by living water—the never-ending supply of God’s truth and Spirit.
Application: Men today need roots. Not in shallow success or temporary fame, but in eternal truth. Are you planted in the Word?
2. A Man Bearing Fruit in Season
God’s vision for manhood is not power for the sake of dominance, but fruitfulness—a life that nourishes others. Like a tree that produces fruit at the right time, a godly man gives what is needed when it is needed. Leadership, compassion, provision, correction, and courage all grow from his walk with God.
Cross-Reference: Galatians 5:22-23 — The fruit of the Spirit should be visible in every man of God.
3. A Man Whose Leaf Does Not Wither
Life has storms. But the man who trusts in the Lord is resilient. He endures the droughts and the winds because his strength is not in himself—it’s in his Source.
Cross-Reference: Jeremiah 17:7-8 echoes this truth about the man who trusts in God.
4. A Man Who Prospers in God’s Will
This isn’t about wealth—it’s about purpose. Whatever he does in line with God’s will, God blesses. Real prosperity is walking in obedience and bringing glory to the Lord.
Cross-Reference: Joshua 1:8 — “Then you will make your way prosperous…”
A Call to Biblical Manhood
God’s pronoun for man isn’t “wanderer,” “abuser,” or “failure.” It’s He shall be like a tree. Men are called to lead, love, labor, and live for something greater than themselves. The strength of a man isn’t found in his fists, fortune, or fame—but in his faithfulness to God.
