The Power of Peter’s Preaching
Text: Acts 3:1-10
Preaching is powerful when it is backed by the authority of Jesus Christ. Peter and John’s encounter with a lame man at the temple gate was more than an act of compassion—it was a proclamation of the gospel in action.
I. The Setting of the Miracle (Acts 3:1-3)
“Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a man lame from birth was being carried…” (Acts 3:1-2).
- A Life of Dependence – The man was laid daily at the Beautiful Gate, much like how many today sit near worship but remain spiritually crippled.
- A Cry for Temporary Relief – He sought silver and gold, but God had something greater planned.
II. Peter’s Response: The Power of the Name of Jesus (Acts 3:4-6)
“But Peter said, ‘I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!’” (Acts 3:6).
- No Human Resources – Peter had no wealth but possessed spiritual power (2 Corinthians 4:7).
- Authority in Christ’s Name – The miracle was done in Jesus’ name (Philippians 2:9-10).
III. The Power of Jesus Christ to Transform (Acts 3:7-8)
“And leaping up he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.” (Acts 3:7-8).
- Faith Requires Action – Peter extended his hand, and the man responded in faith.
- Complete Healing – Just as salvation is immediate and complete (2 Corinthians 5:17).
IV. The Witness of the Miracle (Acts 3:9-10)
“And all the people saw him walking and praising God…” (Acts 3:9-10).
- A Public Testimony – True gospel preaching produces undeniable transformation.
- Amazement and Wonder – Just as in Matthew 5:16, the crowd was drawn to God’s work.
Life Applications
- What We Need is Not Always What We Ask For – Many seek temporary relief, but Jesus offers eternal life (John 10:10).
- The Power of Jesus’ Name Still Saves – We may not perform physical miracles, but we can boldly proclaim Christ.
- Faith Requires Action – Just as Peter reached out his hand, we must respond in faith to God’s call.
- Our Testimony Should Bring Others to Christ – Like the healed man, our lives should be a testimony of Christ’s power.
Invitation
The same Jesus who healed the lame man offers spiritual healing and restoration today. Will you trust Him?
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13).
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the power in Jesus’ name. Help us to preach boldly, trust completely, and witness faithfully. May our lives reflect Your power and bring others to salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
