Revelation 21:1 (ESV) – “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.”
When John looked in his vision, he didn’t just see a city—he saw a whole new creation. A New Heaven and a New Earth, untouched by sin, unscarred by sorrow, unmarred by death.
This is not simply a repaired Earth. It is a recreated one—born from the redeeming power of God, freed from the curse. Isaiah had long ago foretold it: “Behold, I create new heavens and a new earth” (Isaiah 65:17). Peter echoed it when he wrote of “new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13).
It will be a world without war, without decay, without division. Creation itself, once subjected to futility because of man’s fall, will be released into glorious freedom (Romans 8:21). Every tree, every river, every mountain will declare the glory of God with no stain of death or sorrow to dampen their song.
Literal or symbolic? We hold that the Bible invites us to believe in a real, renewed, physical existence. As literal as Eden. As tangible as the world God first called “good.” A real place for real, glorified bodies, lived in real joy, under the real reign of Christ.
The New Heaven and New Earth will be the eternal home where God dwells openly with His people—and where righteousness is the air we breathe.
Isaiah 65:17 – “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.”
2 Peter 3:13 – “But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”
Romans 8:21 – “…that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.”
Life Application: This broken world is not your final home. Creation groans, but redemption is coming. Live today with hope: the skies will be remade, the ground restored, and you will stand in a new world where God’s goodness is the atmosphere forever.
