“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1
Before there was light, before time began ticking, before anything existed—there was God. The Bible opens with His majestic name: Jehovah Elohim, “The Eternal Creator.”
This powerful compound name reminds us of God’s transcendence and intimacy. Jehovah is His covenant name—personal and faithful. Elohim is His majestic name—Creator, Sustainer, Ruler. Together, they declare that the God who made the galaxies is the same God who knows your name.
📜 Word Study
Elohim (אֱלֹהִים) is the plural form of “El,” used over 2,500 times in the Old Testament. Though plural in form, it’s always used with singular verbs when referring to the one true God—an early hint at the triune nature of God. The name emphasizes power, sovereignty, and creative authority.
Jehovah Elohim formed man from the dust and breathed life into him (Genesis 2:7). He is not just the Author of life—He is the Giver of purpose.
💎 A Diamond of Truth
You are not an accident. You are not a product of randomness. You are the handiwork of Jehovah Elohim—the same One who hung the stars and parted the seas.
And because He created you, He also knows how to restore you. When life feels chaotic, remember the One who brought order from nothing. When you feel empty, remember the God who speaks life into the void.
💬 Reflect and Respond
- What would it look like to worship Jehovah Elohim today—not just for what He made, but for who He is?
- Do you trust His creative power to shape your life, even when things feel formless?
- Where do you need to invite the Creator to do a new work in you?
Jehovah Elohim made the world. He made you. And He’s not finished yet.
