“And this is the name by which he will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’” – Jeremiah 23:6
It’s easy to feel unworthy. Our sins, our failures, our regrets—they weigh us down. No matter how hard we try to “do better,” we come face to face with the fact that we cannot make ourselves righteous. But the prophet Jeremiah pointed to a hope beyond self-effort. He looked ahead to a King, a Savior, and gave Him a name: Jehovah Tsidkenu, “The Lord our Righteousness.”
This name was spoken during a time of corruption and moral failure in Judah. But Jeremiah, by the Spirit of God, saw the coming of a righteous Branch from David’s line—a king who would reign wisely and save His people. That King is Jesus.
📜 Word Study
Tsidkenu (צִדְקֵנוּ) comes from the root tsedek, meaning righteousness, justice, or integrity. It signifies more than a moral standing—it expresses the very character of God. He is always right, always just, and always holy.
When we say “Jehovah Tsidkenu,” we are proclaiming that our righteousness doesn’t come from within—it comes from Him. Through Jesus, we are clothed in righteousness not our own (2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 3:9).
💎 A Diamond of Truth
You don’t have to earn God’s love. You don’t have to clean yourself up first. You don’t have to live under the pressure of perfection. Jehovah Tsidkenu has already done what you cannot. He has provided righteousness through His Son—and it’s yours by faith.
When you feel like a failure, remind yourself of this name. When guilt creeps in, whisper it in prayer. Jehovah Tsidkenu covers you. Jesus is your righteousness.
