Daily Diamonds – The Names of God: YHWH (I AM)

Exodus 3:14 (ESV) – “God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And he said, ‘Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.’”

When Moses stood trembling before the burning bush, uncertain of his calling, he asked the question we’ve all asked in moments of fear: “Who am I?” God’s answer wasn’t to list Moses’ qualifications—it was to reveal His own eternal identity: “I AM WHO I AM.”

In Hebrew, the name is YHWH—sometimes written as Yahweh or Jehovah. It is God’s most sacred name, so holy that ancient scribes would bathe before writing it. It means “The Self-Existent One,” the God who has no beginning and no end. He depends on nothing. He is complete in Himself.

This name reminds us that God is never becoming—He simply is. Always present. Always faithful. Always enough. When you need wisdom, He says, “I AM.” When you need peace, “I AM.” When you feel unworthy, “I AM.” He is everything you need at every moment, unchanging in a changing world.

YHWH isn’t just a name—it’s a declaration of eternal sufficiency.

John 8:58 (ESV) – “Before Abraham was, I am.”

Malachi 3:6 (ESV) – “For I the Lord do not change…”

Psalm 90:2 (ESV) – “From everlasting to everlasting, you are God.”

Life Application:
When life feels uncertain and questions arise, remember who sent you. YHWH—the I AM—is with you. He’s not just a past promise or a future hope. He is present right now, and He is enough. Rest in His eternal name today.
