“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” – 1 John 2:1
Even after salvation, we stumble. We fail. We sin. And when we do, the enemy accuses, our conscience condemns, and shame whispers that we should hide. But God’s Word gives us a better word: “We have an Advocate.” Jesus is not only our Savior—He is our defense attorney before the throne of heaven.
He doesn’t plead our innocence—He pleads His righteousness. He stands in our place, speaks on our behalf, and secures our forgiveness through His finished work. You are not alone in the courtroom of eternity. The One who died for you now speaks for you.
📜 Word Study
Advocate (Greek: παράκλητος, pronounced pa-RA-klee-tos)
- Means “helper, comforter, intercessor, legal advocate.”
- Used of someone who comes alongside to plead a case or support another.
This is the same word Jesus used to describe the Holy Spirit in John 14:16. Now, Jesus Himself is our Advocate in heaven while the Spirit advocates within us on earth.
💎 A Diamond of Truth
Your past may accuse you. Your failures may haunt you. But your Advocate never sleeps. He never loses a case. And He never tires of defending those He redeemed.
Jesus doesn’t excuse sin—He atoned for it. And when Satan points at your shame, Jesus points to His scars. Case closed.
💬 Reflect and Respond
- Do you live with the confidence that Jesus is your Advocate?
- Are you quick to repent, knowing He stands ready to restore?
- How can you reflect His advocacy toward others who feel condemned?
You have an Advocate. Trust His voice more than the accuser’s. Let His grace speak louder than your guilt.
