“And Jesus said to them, ‘Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them?’” – Matthew 9:15
“Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready…” – Revelation 19:7
In Scripture, one of the most intimate and powerful pictures of Christ’s relationship with His people is this: He is the Bridegroom, and we—His redeemed Church—are the bride.
This isn’t a cold covenant or legal contract. It is a love story written in eternity, unfolding through redemption, and culminating in a wedding supper beyond imagination. From the first miracle at a wedding in Cana to the final celebration in Revelation, Jesus is preparing His bride—and coming again to claim her.
📜 Word Study
Bridegroom (Greek: νυμφίος, pronounced noom-FEE-os) refers to a man pledged in marriage—especially during the period of betrothal and preparation.
In Jewish tradition, a groom would leave to prepare a home for his bride, then return for her in joy and ceremony. Jesus echoes this in John 14:2–3: “I go to prepare a place for you… I will come again and take you to myself.”
💎 A Diamond of Truth
The Bridegroom has already paid the price. He has already pledged His love in blood. And now He waits with longing joy to return for His beloved. This is the heart of the gospel—divine romance. We are not just saved—we are wanted. Chosen. Loved with a covenant love that will never be broken.
He came the first time in humility to win our hearts. He will come the second time in glory to take us home.
