“The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” – Psalm 118:22
“Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone…” – Ephesians 2:20
In ancient construction, the cornerstone was the first and most essential stone laid. It determined the placement, position, and alignment of the entire building. If the cornerstone was off, everything that followed would be unstable.
Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone. He is not just part of the building—He is the foundation itself. The church, the gospel, our very lives—must be built upon Him. Though rejected by men, He was chosen by God as the only foundation that will never crack, crumble, or collapse.
📜 Word Study
Chief Cornerstone (Greek: ἀκρογωνιαῖος λίθος, pronounced ak-ro-gō-nee-AI-os LEE-thos)
- Akrogōniaios – “chief corner,” the leading or foundational stone in construction.
- Lithos – “stone,” used of both physical and symbolic building blocks.
This term links Jesus to prophecies in Isaiah 28:16 and was declared fulfilled in Acts 4:11 and 1 Peter 2:6–7. The world may reject Him, but God exalts Him as central and supreme.
💎 A Diamond of Truth
Every life is built on something—success, self, relationships, religion. But only Christ can hold it all together. He alone provides the stability we need and the alignment we crave.
If Jesus is not the cornerstone of your life, the rest of the structure will eventually fall. But if He is—no storm, no sorrow, and no season can shake you.
💬 Reflect and Respond
- What are you truly building your life upon?
- Is Jesus just a stone in the wall—or the cornerstone of everything?
- Where do you need to realign your life to match the foundation?
Stand on the Stone. Align your life with the Chief Cornerstone. For only in Him is the house strong, the church secure, and the future unshakable.
