“Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.” – Hebrews 4:14
In the Old Testament, the high priest entered the Most Holy Place once a year with blood—not without fear—for the sins of the people. But Jesus, our Great High Priest, has entered not an earthly tabernacle, but heaven itself—once and for all—offering not the blood of animals, but His own.
He knows our weakness. He feels our pain. He sympathizes with our temptations. Yet He stands sinless—perfect—making intercession for us at the right hand of the Father. No more veil. No more yearly sacrifices. No more fear of rejection. In Christ, the way is open—and the High Priest Himself beckons us in.
📜 Word Study
Great High Priest (Greek: ἀρχιερεὺς μέγας, pronounced ar-khee-e-REVS MEH-gas)
- Archiereus – “high priest,” the supreme religious leader and intercessor in Israel.
- Megas – “great, superior, surpassing all others.”
Unlike the Levitical priests, Jesus’ priesthood is after the order of Melchizedek—eternal, royal, and unending (Hebrews 7:17).
