“He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead.” – Acts 10:42
One day, every soul will stand before the throne—not of a stranger, but of the Savior. The One who wore thorns will wear a crown. The One who was judged by men will judge all men. Jesus is the appointed Judge of the Living and the Dead.
This title reminds us that history is not spiraling toward chaos, but marching toward accountability. Christ, the Risen One, will judge with perfect justice, perfect knowledge, and perfect righteousness. For the believer, this brings hope. For the unrepentant, a solemn warning. His judgment is not delayed—it is patient. But it will come.
📜 Word Study
Judge (Greek: κριτής, pronounced kree-TAYS)
- Means “one who decides, evaluates, renders a verdict.” Often used of legal authority.
Living and the Dead (Greek: ζώντων καὶ νεκρῶν, pronounced ZON-ton kai nek-RON)
- Refers to the totality of humanity—no one escapes His jurisdiction.
Paul echoes this truth in 2 Timothy 4:1: “Christ Jesus… will judge the living and the dead.”
💎 A Diamond of Truth
The cross is where mercy and justice met. But the throne is where justice will be complete. For those in Christ, judgment has already fallen—on Jesus. For those without Him, judgment is still ahead.
Jesus is not only our Savior and Shepherd—He is our Judge. And because He is righteous, we can rest. Because He is risen, we can rejoice. And because He is returning, we must be ready.
💬 Reflect and Respond
- Are you living today in light of that coming judgment seat?
- Does the knowledge of His justice compel you to deeper surrender—or to bold witness?
- How can you point others to the Judge who became their Substitute?
Let His justice humble you. Let His grace sustain you. And let His coming keep your heart awake. For He is the Judge of all—and He is worthy.
