Daily Diamonds – Titles of Jesus: The Lamb of God

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” – John 1:29

When John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him, he didn’t call Him a teacher, healer, or prophet. He called Him “the Lamb of God.” With that phrase, John pointed backward to the Passover lamb, forward to the cross, and upward to the throne of heaven. This title is woven through the fabric of Scripture and redemption.

From the lamb provided for Isaac on Mount Moriah (Genesis 22:8) to the blood on the doorposts in Egypt (Exodus 12:13), to the daily sacrifices in the temple, the lamb symbolized innocence, substitution, and salvation. Jesus is the fulfillment of them all. He is not just a lamb—He is God’s Lamb, chosen, perfect, and slain for us.

📜 Word Study

Lamb of God (Greek: ὁ ἀμνὸς τοῦ θεοῦ, pronounced ho am-NOS too the-OU) combines the image of a sacrificial lamb (amnos) with the possessive: “belonging to God.” It signifies that Jesus is the divinely appointed, spotless substitute for the sin of the world. In Isaiah’s prophecy, the Messiah is described as a lamb led to the slaughter (Isaiah 53:7), and in Revelation, the Lamb is eternally exalted (Revelation 5:12).

💎 A Diamond of Truth

There is no other sacrifice needed. No other lamb sufficient. No other offering accepted. Jesus, the Lamb of God, gave Himself willingly, completely, and forever. His blood covers our guilt, His meekness confounds our pride, and His victory crushes the serpent’s head.

And though He was slain, the Lamb now stands in glory—robed in majesty, radiant in mercy, and worthy of eternal praise.
