Daily Diamonds – Titles of Jesus: The Resurrection and the Life

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.’”John 11:25

Jesus spoke these words at the tomb of His friend Lazarus. The grief in Martha’s heart was real. The tomb was sealed. Death seemed final. But Jesus stood before her—not just offering hope—He was hope. Not merely a future promise, but a present Person with power over death itself.

This title is thunderous in its implications. Jesus doesn’t just perform resurrections—He is the Resurrection. He doesn’t just offer a better life—He is the Life. In Him, death loses its sting and eternity begins now.

📜 Word Study

The Resurrection and the Life (Greek: ἡ ἀνάστασις καὶ ἡ ζωή, pronounced hay ah-NAH-sta-sis kai hay zo-AY) features two powerful terms:

  • Anastasis – a rising again, standing up from the dead.
  • Zōē – true, eternal, God-given life, full and indestructible.

This declaration is personal. Jesus didn’t say “I will cause resurrection,” but “I AM the Resurrection.” His presence brings dead things to life—souls, hopes, relationships, and ultimately, bodies.

💎 A Diamond of Truth

Death is not the end. The grave is not victorious. Jesus has conquered it all. And when we place our faith in Him, we pass from death to life—even before our final breath.

The same voice that called Lazarus out of the tomb will one day call you by name. And if you belong to Jesus, you will rise to eternal joy—not judgment.

💬 Reflect and Respond

  • Are you living with resurrection hope—or worldly despair?
  • What part of your life feels “dead” that needs Jesus to revive it?
  • Have you trusted in Him, the only one who can give you eternal life?

Believe in the One who defeated death. Rest in the One who is life itself. Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life—and because He lives, you will live also.
