“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” – Luke 19:10
Of all the titles Jesus used for Himself, none appears more often—or more deliberately—than Son of Man</strong. It’s found over 80 times in the Gospels, flowing from His own lips in moments of compassion, suffering, authority, and glory. This was no mere poetic phrase. It was a divine riddle pointing to a majestic reality.
“Son of Man” ties Jesus directly to Daniel’s vision of a heavenly figure who receives authority, glory, and an everlasting kingdom (Daniel 7:13–14). At the same time, it emphasizes His full humanity—His identification with our weakness, weariness, and wounds.
Jesus is both Heaven’s King and Earth’s Servant. He is God come down in flesh to walk our roads, feel our pain, carry our sin, and open the way home.
📜 Word Study
Son of Man (Greek: ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου, pronounced ho hwee-OS too an-THRO-poo) literally means “the son of a human being.” But in Hebrew thought—especially in Daniel 7—it referred to the coming Messiah who would be both divine and human.
Jesus used this title to refer to His suffering (Matthew 17:22–23), His authority (Mark 2:10), His return (Matthew 24:30), and His mission to save the lost.
💎 A Diamond of Truth
The Son of God became the Son of Man so that sons of men could become sons of God. Jesus is both fully divine and fully human. He understands your dust and defeats your death. He doesn’t just save from afar—He enters the story, walks through the pain, and lifts us from it.
