1 John 3:2 (ESV) – “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.”
There are many promises in Scripture that stir our hope—but few are so intimate, so personal, so breathtaking as this: We will see Jesus. And in seeing Him, we will be made like Him.
This is not just a change of location—it’s a transformation of identity. The sin that clings so closely, the doubts that cloud our thoughts, the struggles that weary our hearts—they all fall away when we behold the Lamb in His glory.
John writes with confidence: “We shall be like Him.” Why? Not because of effort, or time, or even eternity—but because of a moment. A moment of seeing. One unveiled look at the glorified Christ, and we will be changed forever.
This is the final work of grace: not only forgiven, but finished. Not only justified, but glorified. Not only redeemed, but remade in the radiant image of the One who redeemed us.
Heaven is not just where we see Jesus—it is where we become what He always intended us to be. Whole. Glorious. Like Him.
Philippians 3:20–21 – “…we await a Savior… who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body…”
2 Corinthians 3:18 – “…beholding the glory of the Lord, [we] are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another…”
Romans 8:29 – “…those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son…”
Life Application:
Do you ever feel like you’ll never get it right? That your spiritual progress is too slow, your failures too many? Take heart. The day is coming when your faith will become sight—and in that moment, you will be changed forever. You will see Him—and you will be like Him.
