“I Need Answers!”

Have you ever said this, “I need answers”? Or, “I need an anwer now!” Or, “Lord please help me.” If so, you are not alone. We all have asked these questions and others in the depths of our faith journey. We need answers to our prayers. Everyone is looking for anwers. Believers and unbelievers seeking solutions to the pressing needs in our lives. Often we need guidance as we navigate through life. Often we have material needs that need to be met. Sometimes we need spiritual refreshing on our journey. But, all of us seek answers to all our supplications and we relate with the plea that we find in the words of Psalm 5:1-3 (ESV):

[1] “Give ear to my words, O Lord; consider my groaning. [2] Give attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you do I pray. [3] O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning, I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.”

These verses encapsulate the human experience of seeking divine guidance, a heartfelt pouring out of our souls in yearning for answers. As we explore the themes of faith, the joy of ‘yes,’ the disappointment of ‘no,’ and the anxiousness of waiting, let’s find solace and wisdom in the verses that invite God’s attentive ear to our deepest concerns.

Verse 1: The Intimate Plea

The psalmist begins with a heartfelt plea, “Give ear to my words, O Lord; consider my groaning.” How does this resonate with your own moments of seeking answers from God? Reflect on times when you’ve poured out your heart in similar earnestness.

Encouragement: Take comfort in knowing that God hears your words, even the unspoken groanings of your heart.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:25‭-‬27‬ ‭ESV‬‬ [25] But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. [26] Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. [27] And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will

Verse 2: The Cry of the Heart

“Give attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you do I pray.” What does it mean to you to address God as “my King and my God”? How does this acknowledgment shape your approach in seeking answers through prayer?

Encouragement: Recognize the sovereignty of God in your prayers, trusting that your cries are heard by the One who reigns over all. Our sovereign Father knows what we need.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:7‭-‬8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ [7] “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. [8] Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Verse 3: The Morning Offering

“O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning, I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.” Consider the significance of presenting your concerns to God in the morning. How does the act of preparing a sacrifice and watching align with your seeking answers in faith?

Encouragement: Embrace the discipline of seeking God early, presenting your concerns as an offering, and watching with expectant faith. The best offering we can give God is our firstfruits. The beginning of our day is the pattern of prayer in David’s life. Pray early, pray late, pray often. Be instant in prayer.

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭4:2‬ ‭ESV‬‬ [2] Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

When God Says “Yes”

Imagine a moment when God’s answer is a resounding “yes.” It’s like discovering a hidden treasure chest filled with joy. Your heart leaps, and gratitude becomes the melody of your soul. Have you experienced such a moment? Recall a time when God’s ‘yes’ brought you overwhelming joy.

Encouragement: Let the joy of ‘yes’ inspire a dance of gratitude. Celebrate the answered prayer, knowing that in this moment, God has shown His faithfulness. Share with others the experience of having God granting your request.

When God Says “No”

In the complex tapestry of faith, there are times when God’s response is a gentle ‘no.’ It may feel like a somber note in the symphony of prayers. Have you encountered such a moment? Reflect on a time when God’s ‘no’ led to a redirection in your life. Jesus understood this by the silence of the father as he was alone in the garden.

‭‭Luke‬ ‭22:41‭-‬42‬ ‭ESV‬‬ [41] And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, [42] saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”

Encouragement: Amidst the disappointment, find solace in surrender. Trust that God’s ‘no’ is part of a greater plan, even if it’s not immediately clear. Know that He is sovereign and always has the best plans for you.

When God Says “Wait”

Waiting on God is akin to a patient anticipation, like waiting for a flower to bloom. It’s an emotional journey where hope and impatience intermingle. How do you navigate the season of waiting? Consider a time when waiting led to a deeper understanding of God’s timing.

Encouragement: Cultivate patience in the waiting. Trust that God is working behind the scenes, and the anticipation will lead to a deeper connection with Him. God promises that those who wait on him will renew their strength.
