Welcome back to our study through Jude! So far, we’ve seen the rise and ruin of false teachers. We’ve walked through warnings of judgment and examples from history. But now, in Jude 17–21, the focus turns to us—the believers. Jude gives us a survival guide for the last days. These verses are filled with hope, instruction, and the assurance that God keeps those who keep themselves in His love. Let’s dive in. 🕊️
📖 Scripture: Jude 17–21 (ESV)
But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.
They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.”
It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit.
But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,
keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.
🧠 Remember the Warnings (vv. 17–18)
“But you must remember, beloved…”
False teachers didn’t catch God by surprise—and they shouldn’t catch us off guard either. The apostles of Jesus warned repeatedly that in the last days, mockers would come, following selfish desires (2 Peter 3:3; 1 Timothy 4:1; Acts 20:29–30).
Jude calls us to remember the Word and recognize that deception is not new—it’s a sign of the times. In moments of spiritual chaos, memory anchors us. 💡
Don’t be shocked by scoffers—be rooted in Scripture. Let the Bible prepare your expectations and steady your soul.
🚫 Recognize the Source (v. 19)
“It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit.”
False teachers divide rather than unify, stir conflict rather than peace, and are marked not by spiritual maturity but by worldliness. And most sobering of all—Jude says they are devoid of the Spirit.
Whatever charisma they may have, whatever crowd they may gather, their ministry is empty if the Spirit of God is not in them. Don’t be swayed by show—look for the fruit. 🍂
Is it Spirit-filled or self-fueled? Is it building others or dividing the Body? Jude teaches us to discern the source.
🧱 Build and Be Kept (vv. 20–21)
“But you, beloved…”
Now Jude gives four beautiful commands to help us stay strong and faithful:
- Build yourselves up in your most holy faith – Faith is our foundation. Don’t just consume sermons—construct your life on truth. Study, apply, and grow.
- Pray in the Holy Spirit – This is Spirit-led prayer, not formulaic words. It’s personal, powerful communion with God—aligned with His will and fueled by His presence.
- Keep yourselves in the love of God – God keeps us (Jude 1), but we’re called to remain near. How? Through obedience, fellowship, worship, and ongoing surrender.
- Wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ – This is future-focused living. We wait with hope for His return and the final fulfillment of our salvation. ⏳
Build in faith. Pray in the Spirit. Stay in His love. Wait with hope. This is how we remain in turbulent times.
🗝️ Key Truth
God will keep you—but you must stay near. This passage doesn’t call us to fear, but to faithfulness. God’s people are equipped to endure, empowered to pray, and embraced by His love. Jude isn’t calling us to survive—he’s calling us to thrive in truth.
📚 Practical Takeaways
- 📖 Start each day with Scripture – Lay a brick of truth daily to build your spiritual house.
- 🙏 Let prayer become relational, not routine – Ask the Spirit to guide and deepen your conversations with God.
- 🛡️ Stay in the love of God – Reject the lie that obedience is burdensome. His love is our shelter, not our straitjacket.
- 🎯 Live with mercy in view – Let Christ’s return shape your present choices.
🙏 Prayer
Father, thank You for the call to remain in Your love. Strengthen us to build, empower us to pray, and keep us focused on Your mercy. In a world of deception, help us live in devotion. May we remain faithful to the very end. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
🌟 Coming Up: Mercy in Action
