Knowing God is Knowing His Spirit

Reading Time: 4 minutes

The Holy Spirit is God’s presence with and in us, guiding, comforting, and empowering believers. By identifying Holy Spirit’s role in our lives, we can experience God’s nearness and support in our spiritual growth and everyday challenges. God’s Spirit will not glorify Himself. His position in the trinity is to Glorify Jesus.

‭John 16:13, 15 ESV‬ When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it unto you.

The Holy Spirit as Our Guide

The Holy Spirit guides believers into all truth, helping us understand God’s Word and apply it to our lives. Jesus promised His disciples that the Spirit would teach them all things and remind them of everything He had said to them.

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” (John 14:26)

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” (John 16:13)

The Holy Spirit as Our Comforter

The Holy Spirit is also known as the Comforter or Advocate, who provides us with the peace and strength we need in times of trouble. Jesus assured His followers that they would not be left alone; the Holy Spirit would be with them forever.

“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17)

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” (Romans 8:26)

The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live out their faith boldly and effectively. From the moment of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles, it was clear that His presence brought power for witness and ministry.

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)

  • How has the Holy Spirit empowered you to share your faith or serve others?
  • What steps can you take to be more open to the Holy Spirit’s power in your daily life?

The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in our sanctification, transforming us to become more like Christ. He produces fruit in our lives that reflects God’s character and empowers us to live out our faith authentically.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5)

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
