Exodus 14:21–22 (KJV)
“And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.”
⛔ When You’re Boxed In
The children of Israel were completely hemmed in. Mountains to the left and right, Pharaoh’s army behind them, and the Red Sea stretched out before them. There was nowhere to go—no way out, humanly speaking.
Have you ever been there? Hemmed in. Out of options. Surrounded by fear, pressure, or even regret. Our first instinct in moments like this is often to panic—or worse, to take matters into our own hands.
But when you’re boxed in, God is just getting started.
The cloud of God came between them and the Egyptians (Exodus 14:19–20), protecting them while God prepared the path ahead.
🌬️ The Wind Blew All Night
The Red Sea didn’t split in a dramatic instant. God caused a strong east wind to blow all night. While the people waited, God worked. He was doing something unseen, powerful, and necessary—He was drying the ground.
This is where we often falter. We want the miracle, the breakthrough, the escape—now. But if Israel had charged ahead before God had fully prepared the way, they would have sunk into the mud. The sea floor wasn’t safe until the breath of God had dried it up.
🐦 Like Noah, Waiting on the Dove
It reminds us of Noah. He sent out the raven and the dove, again and again, waiting for the earth to dry. Only when the dove returned with an olive branch and then didn’t return at all did Noah know it was time to move.
🕊️ Better to be shut in the ark than stuck in the mud.
It is far safer to be waiting in the ark—surrounded by the presence and provision of God—than to step out too soon and get swallowed by the swamp of self-will.
🚶 Wait for the Dry Ground
Israel’s path wasn’t just forward—it was safe and dry. God doesn’t simply rescue us; He prepares our steps. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way” (Psalm 37:23).
Impatience leads to mud. Trust leads to miracles. When you’re boxed in, wait on the Word of the Lord. When He moves, then you move. Not before.
💡 APPLICATION:
Don’t get ahead of God. The waiting may feel long, but the wind is blowing. The ground is drying. Trust that God is preparing something better than a muddy mess—He’s paving a miracle path.
🔚 Final Thought
Don’t let fear drive you out of the place where God has placed you. Don’t move until the Lord says move. There is no safer place than where God has you, even if it feels uncomfortable, limited, or delayed. If you step into the mud of self-effort, you’ll get stuck. But if you wait on the Lord, you’ll walk on dry ground with walls of wonder on every side.
“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”
—Psalm 27:14
🧭 Don’t Miss This
- Stuck doesn’t mean stranded—it may mean sheltered.
- God often works behind the scenes while we wait.
- Miracles take time. Dry ground is worth the delay.
📌 Stay with God. Don’t run ahead. Don’t settle in the mud. The wind is blowing, and your path is coming.
