1. The Covenant with Noah – A Rainbow in the Clouds
After the worldwide flood, God made a promise to Noah and every living creature: never again would He destroy the earth with water. The rainbow was the sign of that first global covenant.
Genesis 9:16 (ESV)
“When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
But this covenant wasn’t just about nature—it was a symbol of God’s mercy. Like a divine banner in the sky, the rainbow was a visible sign of grace and protection for all generations.
2. The Covenant with Abraham – A Promise that Endures
God chose Abraham to be the father of a special people through whom all nations would be blessed. The covenant He made with Abraham was eternal—not only physical, but spiritual.
Genesis 17:7 (ESV)
“And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.”
This wasn’t just about land—it was about lineage, legacy, and ultimately the coming of Christ.
3. The Covenant with Moses – A Nation Set Apart
At Mount Sinai, God entered into a covenant with Israel through Moses. He gave the Ten Commandments, built the sanctuary, and established the Sabbath as a sign of creation and salvation.
Exodus 31:16–17 (ESV)
“Therefore the people of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a covenant forever. It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel…”
The sanctuary built in the wilderness was patterned after the heavenly one. This earthly copy held sacred items like the ark, the table of showbread, and the menorah—each with eternal meaning.
Leviticus 24:8 (ESV)
“Every Sabbath day Aaron shall set it in order before the Lord regularly; it is from the people of Israel as a covenant forever.”
4. The Covenant with the Priesthood – Salt and Permanence
In Numbers, God describes the priesthood as a “covenant of salt.” Salt was a symbol of preservation and permanence in the ancient world.
Numbers 18:19 (ESV)
“It is a covenant of salt forever before the Lord for you and for your offspring with you.”
This shows us that God’s covenant with His priests—and later, Christ as our great High Priest—is enduring and incorruptible.
5. The Covenant with David – A Throne Forever
God promised David that one of his descendants would reign forever. This wasn’t just a royal contract—it was a prophecy of Jesus, the King of Kings.
2 Samuel 23:5 (ESV)
“For does not my house stand so with God? For he has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and secure.”
Psalm 89:28–29 (ESV)
“My steadfast love I will keep for him forever, and my covenant will stand firm for him. I will establish his offspring forever and his throne as the days of the heavens.”
This throne, like the covenant, is unshakable and eternal.
6. The New Covenant in Christ – Written on Hearts
The greatest covenant is the one fulfilled by Jesus. His blood didn’t just confirm God’s promise—it completed it. The law moved from stone tablets to hearts, and the sanctuary moved from earth to heaven.
Jeremiah 31:31–33 (ESV)
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant… I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts.”
Hebrews 13:20 (KJV)
“Now the God of peace… brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant.”
This covenant is not a break from the past—it is its fulfillment. Jesus is the living ark, the heavenly priest, and the eternal sacrifice.
7. The Final Covenant Call – The Everlasting Gospel
In the book of Revelation, God sends a final message to the whole world. It’s called the everlasting gospel—and it calls people back to the Creator, the commandments, and the covenant.
Revelation 14:6–7 (KJV)
“And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them… saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him… and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea…”
And in one powerful glimpse into heaven, the ark of God’s covenant is seen—right before the end.
Revelation 11:19 (KJV)
“And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament…”
Conclusion – One Covenant, One God, One Eternal Purpose
From Noah’s rainbow to Revelation’s final trumpet, God’s plan has never changed. His covenant is everlasting. His love is unending. His call is clear.
Psalm 105:8 (KJV)
“He hath remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.”
Ask Yourself:
– Have I entered into God’s everlasting covenant through Jesus?
– Am I living as part of that covenant family?
– Am I preparing others for the covenant call of Revelation?
