Jude 14-16 – The Lord Is Coming: Prophecy, Justice, and Ungodliness Unveiled

Welcome to Part 7 of our journey through the letter of Jude! 👋 So far, we’ve studied the tragic path of false teachers and their devastating influence on the body of Christ. Now, Jude lifts our gaze forward—to the coming of the Lord in judgment. In Jude 14–16, we discover an ancient prophecy with present power: the Judge is coming. Let’s unpack this powerful passage together. 🕊️

📖 Scripture: Jude 14–16 (ESV)

It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying,

“Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones,
to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way,
and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.

🌠 Enoch’s Ancient Prophecy (v. 14)

Jude reaches all the way back to **Enoch**, the seventh from Adam—a man who “walked with God” and was taken to heaven without dying (Genesis 5:24). Jude quotes a prophecy found in the non-canonical Book of Enoch, a respected Jewish work in his day. Though not Scripture, Jude affirms this quote as **true prophecy**, foretelling the return of the Lord in glory.

“Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones…”

This isn’t the meek Savior of Bethlehem—but the conquering King of Revelation 19. He comes not alone, but with His saints and angels to judge the earth. 💥

⚖️ Typology Tip:
Just as Enoch walked faithfully in a corrupt world and was taken up before judgment (Genesis 5), so the church is called to walk closely with God, awaiting the day when we will return with Christ in glory.

⚖️ Judgment on the Ungodly (v. 15)

“To execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly…”

Jude emphasizes the word “ungodly” four times in a single verse. It’s not just about bad behavior—it’s about a heart that has rejected God’s lordship. The coming judgment will:

  • 🔥 Expose every ungodly deed
  • 📢 Reveal every blasphemous word
  • ⚖️ Convict every heart that denied His authority

This is not a general judgment—it is deeply personal and perfectly just. No action, attitude, or word will be missed by the returning King. He will vindicate truth and silence rebellion.

🛑 Warning:
The most dangerous kind of ungodliness is not the loud sin of the world, but the hidden rebellion inside the heart—especially among those who once claimed to speak for God.

🎭 The Marks of the Ungodly (v. 16)

Jude shifts from the cosmic to the personal. Who are these ungodly ones? He lists five traits:

  • 😠 Grumblers – Always dissatisfied, even with God’s provision.
  • 😤 Malcontents – Resentful of leadership, always seeking control.
  • 🔥 Driven by desires – They live for pleasure, not purpose.
  • 📣 Loud-mouthed boasters – Their words glorify self, not Christ.
  • 🎁 Favor seekers – They use people to get ahead.

This is more than poor behavior—it’s a heart posture that rejects God’s rule and exploits God’s people. It’s leadership without submission. Ministry without humility. Influence without fear of God.

🗝️ Key Truth

The Lord is coming, and His judgment will be just. Every proud word, every selfish motive, every ungodly deed will be brought to light. But those who walk with Him—like Enoch—have nothing to fear.

📚 Application for Today

  • 👑 Live with eternity in view – Jesus is not just Savior—He is returning as Judge and King (2 Timothy 4:1).
  • 🧎‍♀️ Keep your heart free from hidden rebellion – Confess the grumbling spirit and the proud words. Let the Spirit cleanse and convict.
  • 📖 Cling to Scripture, not speculation – Just as Jude affirms true prophecy, we too must build on what is certain: the Word of God.

🙏 Prayer

Lord, help us walk like Enoch—in intimacy, integrity, and hope. Keep our hearts free from arrogance and self-seeking. May we not be swept into the noise of rebellion, but remain watchful and faithful. Come, Lord Jesus. Judge in righteousness and reign in glory. In Your holy name, Amen.
