Tough Questions 8

How Do We Know the Bible Is Truly God’s Word?

The Questions We Keep Asking – Post 8 of 10

“Is the Bible really inspired—or just written by men?”

If we’re wrong about the Bible, we’re likely wrong about everything else. At the heart of Christianity lies one massive claim: that God has spoken—clearly, faithfully, and authoritatively—in written form. But can we trust that claim?

I. The Bible Claims Divine Inspiration

2 Timothy 3:16–17
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

2 Peter 1:20–21
“…knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”

II. The Bible’s Unity Testifies to Its Divine Origin

The Bible was written over 1,500 years, by more than 40 authors, in three languages, across three continents—yet tells one unified story: redemption through Jesus Christ.

Luke 24:27
“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”

III. Fulfilled Prophecy Proves Divine Authorship

Micah 5:2
“But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.”

Matthew 2:1
“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem.”

Psalm 22:16
“For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet—”

John 20:27
“Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.’”

Zechariah 11:12
“Then I said to them, ‘If it seems good to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them.’ And they weighed out as my wages thirty pieces of silver.”

Matthew 26:15
“…and said, ‘What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?’ And they paid him thirty pieces of silver.”

Isaiah 53:9
“And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.”

Matthew 27:57–60
“When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph… and he laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away.”

Isaiah 46:9–10
“…for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.’”

IV. The Bible Has Withstood Every Attack

Matthew 24:35
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”

1 Peter 1:24–25
“For ‘All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.’ And this word is the good news that was preached to you.”

V. The Bible’s Power to Transform Is Divine Evidence

Hebrews 4:12
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

Psalm 19:7–8
“The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.”

Psalm 119:105
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

VI. Jesus Affirmed the Bible as God’s Word

John 17:17
“Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.”

Matthew 5:18
“For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.”

Reflection & Life Application

  • Am I building my life on God’s Word—or just visiting it occasionally?
  • Have I tested the Bible’s claims personally by surrendering to its truth?
  • Where in my life am I resisting the authority of Scripture?

Let’s Talk About It

The Bible is not outdated—it’s eternal.
It’s not man’s opinion—it’s God’s declaration.
It doesn’t just inform—it transforms.
