Was the Bible Written by Men Alone?
This article is part of the Daily Diamonds series Things People Think Are in the Bible (But Aren’t).
One of the most common objections people raise about the Bible is the claim that it was written only by human beings. Because the Scriptures were written by prophets, apostles, and other historical figures, some assume that the Bible is simply a collection of human religious ideas.
You may have heard someone say, “The Bible was written by men,” as if that statement alone settles the question of its authority.
But what does the Bible itself say about how it was written?
The Saying
“The Bible was written by men, so it can’t really be from God.”
This statement is often used to suggest that Scripture is unreliable or merely the product of human imagination.
While it is true that human authors wrote the words of the Bible, the Scriptures themselves claim that something far greater was happening.
The Problem
The problem with this assumption is that it misunderstands the relationship between human authors and divine inspiration.
The Bible never hides the fact that human writers were involved. Books of Scripture were written by individuals such as Moses, David, Isaiah, Matthew, Paul, and others. These men lived in real places, spoke real languages, and wrote to real people.
However, the Bible consistently teaches that God was guiding the process.
This misunderstanding often connects to other questions about Scripture that we will explore later in this series, such as whether the Bible contains contradictions or whether the church invented its message.
What the Bible Actually Says
The apostle Paul explains the origin of Scripture very clearly:
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
The phrase “breathed out by God” means that Scripture ultimately comes from God Himself.
The apostle Peter describes how God worked through human authors:
“For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
2 Peter 1:21 (ESV)
This verse shows that while human beings wrote the words, the Holy Spirit guided them so that what they wrote faithfully communicated God’s message.
In other words, the Bible is both fully human in its writing and fully divine in its origin.
The Truth
The Bible was indeed written through human authors, but it was not written by human effort alone.
Scripture teaches that God superintended the writing of the Bible through the work of the Holy Spirit. The result is a collection of writings that communicate God’s truth with clarity and authority.
This is why Christians view the Bible not merely as an ancient book, but as the Word of God.
Living It Out
Understanding the divine origin of Scripture changes the way we approach the Bible. Instead of reading it as a collection of human opinions, we read it as God’s revealed truth.
That truth guides our beliefs, shapes our decisions, and directs our lives.
When we open the pages of Scripture, we are not simply reading history—we are listening to the voice of God speaking through His Word.
A Short Prayer
Father, thank You for revealing Your truth through the Scriptures. Help me approach Your Word with humility and trust, knowing that it is Your voice guiding my life. Amen.

To some of us, we know God inspired ever word in the bible.
Where would we be without the word.
Amen brother Gary!!!!!
