But God Part 10 Will Finish the Work

When Grace Enters the Situation

Text: Philippians 1:3–6 (ESV)

Some fears are rooted in the past.

Others are rooted in the future.

Many believers trust God for salvation but quietly wonder if they will endure. Will faith last? Will obedience hold? Will failure have the final word?

The apostle Paul addresses that fear directly—and with confidence.

In a letter written from prison, Paul anchors hope not in human consistency, but in divine faithfulness.

And once again, Scripture gives us a decisive turning point.

But God will finish the work.

Gratitude Rooted in Grace (Philippians 1:3–5)

“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you… because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.”

Paul’s joy is not based on ideal circumstances.

He writes from confinement.

The church he loves faces pressure.

Yet Paul rejoices—not because the believers are flawless, but because God is faithful.

Their partnership in the gospel is evidence that grace has already entered the situation.

The Confidence of Completion (Philippians 1:6)

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

This is not wishful thinking.

It is settled assurance.

Paul’s confidence rests entirely on God’s initiative.

The same God who begins the work sustains it.

The same grace that saves also preserves.

Salvation is not fragile.

It is upheld by the faithfulness of God.

Grace That Sustains the Journey

Every believer’s story includes progress and setbacks.

Growth and struggle.

Obedience and repentance.

But the Christian life is not sustained by personal resolve.

It is sustained by divine commitment.

God does not abandon unfinished work.

He does not save and then step away.

Grace that begins also completes.

The Arc of the Entire Series

We were dead in sin.

But God made us alive.

Evil was intended.

But God meant it for good.

Oppression increased.

But God multiplied His people.

Failure repeated.

But God raised deliverers.

Danger pursued.

But God did not give His servant over.

Strength failed.

But God became our portion.

Rebellion ran.

But God appointed rescue.

Injustice wounded.

But God was with His servant.

Death claimed victory.

But God raised Him.

And now, the final word:

God will finish what He started.

The Gospel Thread

The work God completes is not merely moral improvement.

It is full redemption.

From justification… to sanctification… to glorification.

The cross secured forgiveness.

The resurrection secured life.

The promise of completion secures hope.

What grace begins in time, God perfects in eternity.

Living in This “But God” Moment

You may be discouraged by slow growth.

You may be weary from repeated repentance.

You may fear failure tomorrow.

The promise of Philippians 1:6 does not deny struggle.

It denies defeat.

Your faith may feel weak.

Your progress may feel uneven.

But God is not finished.

Grace entered the situation.

And it will see the work through.

A Final Word

This series began with death and ends with assurance.

Not confidence in ourselves.

Confidence in God.

Grace entered the story before we could respond.

Grace carried us when we stumbled.

Grace raised us when death had spoken.

And grace will complete what it began.

If you belong to Christ, your story is not unfinished.

But God will finish the work.

Grace has entered the situation.

And it will not leave until the work is done.
