Daily Diamonds – Names of God: Jehovah Go’el (The Lord My Redeemer)

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”Isaiah 43:1

Redemption is more than a rescue—it’s a relationship restored. When God calls Himself Jehovah Go’el, “The Lord My Redeemer,” He is declaring His commitment to buy back, to restore, to reclaim what was lost—no matter the cost.

In ancient Israel, a go’el was a “kinsman redeemer”—a relative who had the right and responsibility to rescue a family member from slavery, poverty, or loss. It was an act of mercy and loyalty, driven by love and law. This is the name God uses repeatedly in Isaiah to describe His own actions toward His people (Isaiah 44:6; Isaiah 54:5).

📜 Word Study

Go’el (גֹּאֵל) is a Hebrew word meaning “redeemer” or “kinsman-redeemer.” It’s derived from ga’al, meaning to redeem, recover, or reclaim. The go’el steps into broken situations with both compassion and power, and takes personal responsibility to make things right.

This name finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ, who became our Brother in the flesh so that He could redeem us with His blood. He is the eternal Go’el who not only rescues but restores.

💎 A Diamond of Truth

You may feel used, discarded, or disqualified—but Jehovah Go’el says, “You are worth the price.” He sees what sin has stolen and declares, “I will pay. I will redeem. I will restore.”

And He doesn’t stop at rescue. He calls you His. He gives you a new name. He welcomes you home.

💬 Reflect and Respond

  • What area of your life feels lost or beyond repair?
  • Have you allowed Jehovah Go’el to speak redemption over your past?
  • How can you live today in gratitude for the One who paid your ransom?

Jesus is your Go’el—your Redeemer and Restorer. Let that truth quiet your shame, ignite your worship, and lift your eyes. You are not abandoned. You are redeemed.
