The Discipline of Examining the Heart
Self-examination is not morbid introspection — it is humble invitation. The discipline of examining the heart asks God to shine His light into the hidden places of our lives. David prayed, “Search me,” because he knew that only God sees clearly and only God heals completely.
The heart is a deep well of motives, desires, and thoughts. Without examination, sin takes root quietly: attitudes drift, affections cool, and compromises settle in unnoticed. But when we open our hearts to God’s scrutiny, He corrects gently and restores lovingly.
Examination leads to confession. Confession leads to cleansing. Cleansing leads to renewed intimacy with God. The disciplined believer does not fear examination — they welcome it as a pathway to greater holiness and freedom.
Ask often: “Lord, is there anything in me that grieves Your Spirit or hinders Your work?” He answers such prayers with grace, not condemnation.
The heart God examines is the heart God transforms. What you surrender, He sanctifies.
