Daily Diamonds – Spiritual Disciplines: The Discipline of Loving God Above All

Key Verse:
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” – Matthew 22:37 (ESV)

The Discipline of Loving God Above All

This is the highest discipline, the greatest commandment, and the heartbeat of every other spiritual practice. Loving God above all means He becomes our supreme desire, our deepest joy, and our primary pursuit. It means nothing — not blessing, not ministry, not even good gifts — competes with His place in the heart.

Love for God is not merely emotion; it is devotion. It is obedience rooted in affection, worship overflowing from gratitude, and surrender shaped by trust. When we love God first, everything else finds its proper place: priorities clarify, temptations weaken, and anxieties diminish.

All other disciplines serve this one. Prayer deepens it. Scripture strengthens it. Worship expresses it. Service reflects it. Suffering refines it. Boundaries protect it. Holiness proves it. And eternity rewards it.

To love God above all is to live in continual awe of His grace, constant gratitude for His mercy, and daily dependence on His presence. This is the discipline that transforms all others into delight.

💡 Insight:
The greatest discipline is the greatest joy: a heart completely His.

📖 Scripture Reading:
Matthew 22:34–40; Deuteronomy 6:4–9; John 14:21–23; Psalm 73:25–26

🙏 Prayer:
Father, teach me to love You with my whole heart. Let every discipline draw me closer to You and deepen my devotion. You are my greatest joy. Amen.
