How do we know the Bible is the Word of God? Scripture itself claims divine inspiration (2 Timothy 3:16), Jesus affirmed its authority (John 10:35), and history, prophecy, unity, and preservation provide compelling evidence that the Bible is God’s trustworthy revelation.
A Question of Ultimate Importance
In a world swirling with doubt, confusion, and shifting morals, one question towers above all others:
Is the Bible really God’s Word?
If it is, then it is the final authority — the absolute truth by which every life will ultimately be measured.
If it isn’t, then Christianity collapses into myth, and we are left without meaning or hope.
There is no middle ground.
But this is not a question to answer emotionally. It must be answered carefully, biblically, and honestly.
Scripture does not ask for blind faith. It presents reasons.
The Bible’s Miraculous Unity Across Time
- Written over approximately 1,500 years
- Penned by more than 40 different authors
- Composed in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek
- Written across Asia, Africa, and Europe
- Including kings, shepherds, fishermen, prophets, priests, and physicians
And yet from Genesis to Revelation it tells one unified story: God redeeming sinners through Jesus Christ.
“Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” — 2 Peter 1:20–21 (ESV)
Why This Matters
Human collaboration over fifteen centuries normally produces contradiction and chaos. Scripture produces continuity and fulfillment.
The Bible Claims to Be God’s Word
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” — 2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
“The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.” — Psalm 19:7 (ESV)
“Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” — John 17:17 (ESV)
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” — Matthew 24:35 (ESV)
Scripture claims divine origin, complete truthfulness, and eternal authority.
Jesus Affirmed Scripture as Unbreakable
“Scripture cannot be broken.” — John 10:35 (ESV)
Jesus quoted Scripture as authoritative in temptation (Matthew 4:4), in teaching, and in debate. He affirmed the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings (Luke 24:44).

Inspiration, Inerrancy, and Infallibility
Inspiration
God superintended the human authors so that what they wrote was exactly what He intended.
Inerrancy
In the original writings, Scripture is without error in all it affirms.
Infallibility
The Bible cannot and will not fail in accomplishing God’s purpose.
What About Alleged Contradictions?
Most alleged contradictions fall into three categories:
- Context ignored
- Genre misunderstood
- Historical background overlooked

Why This Question Is Personal
“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” — Isaiah 40:8 (ESV)
If the Bible really is God’s Word, then it carries divine authority, reveals the only way of salvation through Christ, and prepares you for eternity.
