Revelation 22:17; John 16:13–14
In Revelation 22:17 Scripture reveals the unified voice of the Holy Spirit and the redeemed church extending God’s final invitation to a thirsty world—calling all people to come to Christ and receive the free gift of eternal life.
This is not speculation.
It is the final word of Scripture.
The Bible begins with the Spirit hovering over the waters of creation and ends with the Spirit calling humanity to redemption. From Genesis to Revelation, the Spirit’s mission has never changed: to glorify Christ and draw hearts to Him.
The Spirit’s greatest work is not power, gifts, or experience —
it is calling sinners to Christ.
The Spirit and the Bride — A United Voice
Revelation 22:17a (ESV)
“The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come.’”
This is one of the most profound verses in Scripture. The Holy Spirit and the redeemed church speak together with a single invitation. Heaven and earth are aligned. God and His people agree.
The Spirit does not speak apart from the church — and the church cannot speak rightly without the Spirit.
Where the church speaks without the Spirit, the message loses power.
Where the Spirit speaks without the gospel, the message loses clarity.
“Come” — The Language of Grace
Revelation 22:17b (ESV)
“And let the one who hears say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who is thirsty come.”
The word come is not a demand — it is an invitation. Scripture closes not with threat, but with grace.
Isaiah 55:1 (ESV)
“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters…”
From the prophets to the apostles to the final page of Scripture, God’s call remains open.
Grace does not coerce —
it invites, waits, and welcomes.
The Spirit’s Consistent Message — Christ Alone
John 16:13–14 (ESV)
“When the Spirit of truth comes… He will glorify me.”
The Spirit’s final invitation is consistent with His entire work throughout Scripture. He does not point to Himself. He points to Christ.
Every conviction, every regeneration, every gift, every act of mission serves this purpose: that Jesus would be known, trusted, and worshiped.
Any movement that minimizes Christ cannot be the work of the Spirit.
The Free Gift — Grace Without Cost to the Giver
Revelation 22:17c (ESV)
“Let the one who desires take the water of life without price.”
Salvation is free — but it is not cheap. The Spirit offers what Christ purchased at infinite cost.
Romans 6:23 (ESV)
“The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
The Spirit invites without discrimination, without qualification, and without delay.
The question is not whether the invitation is real —
but whether we will respond.
The Church’s Role Until He Comes
The Bride is not silent while waiting for Christ’s return. She echoes the Spirit’s call.
Matthew 28:19 (ESV)
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”
The Spirit empowers the church to proclaim the gospel faithfully, patiently, and lovingly until Christ returns.
The Spirit prepares the Bride by keeping her gospel-centered.
The Spirit’s Final Work — Readiness and Hope
Revelation 22:20 (ESV)
“Surely I am coming soon.”
The Spirit not only invites sinners — He prepares saints. He cultivates longing, holiness, and hope in the hearts of God’s people.
2 Peter 3:11–12 (ESV)
“What sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God.”
Readiness for Christ’s return is marked by holiness,
not speculation.
The Invitation Still Stands
The final chapter of Scripture leaves us not with silence, but with a voice.
The Spirit speaks.
The Bride agrees.
Christ is exalted.
Grace is offered.
The Holy Spirit’s final word to the world is the same as His first —
“Come to Christ.”
A Final Word to the Reader
If you are thirsty, come.
If you are weary, come.
If you are searching, come.
The Spirit still calls.
The Bride still invites.
The Savior still saves.
